The Standard Warranty
A typical commercial laptop, tablet or handheld computer, sold by companies such as Dell, Hewlett Packard, Toshiba, etc., comes standard with a one-year limited warranty. Normally, customers can choose to add an additional two years (for a total of three years) of protection for a price usually well over $300. Panasonic Toughbook computers come with a standard three-year warranty against defects, without charging any more for the computers. By the time the expensive, additional warranty period is added to commercial-grade laptops, the prices are very similar to the road-worthy Toughbook computers.
The standard 3-Year Panasonic Toughbook warranty covers component failures or any defects in material or workmanship free of charge for 3 years from the date of purchase. This includes the microprocessor, the hard disk drive, the keyboard, the display screen, Panasonic memory cards, the DVD drive, wireless modems, GPS, smartcard reader, fingerprint scanner, the AC Adapter, all connection ports, etc. The items not covered include the battery (because batteries often wear-out in a year or two); the stylus pen, and any external hard drives or DVD drives. The battery is warrantied for one year. Obviously, software and consumables are not covered either.
The Time-Extended Warranty
Panasonic also offers the ability for the customer to extend the standard warranty for a longer period on their Toughbook line of rugged computers. This offering covers all repairs in the exact manner as the Standard Warranty. The warranty extension program enables the Toughbook customer to choose an additional one year (for a total of four years), or an additional two years (for a total of five years). This program makes it easy and cost-effective for organizations to keep Toughbook laptops, tablet pc’s and handheld pc’s in the field for longer than three years.
The cost of the extended warranty is surprisingly low. You can obtain 4 or 5 years of complete warranty coverage for a very economical price. The Toughbook people are only able to offer the extended warranties at these low prices because their rugged computers are super reliable, super durable and have such a low failure rate out in the field.
The Protection Plus Warranty Upgrade
In addition to extending the time frame on a Panasonic Toughbook warranty, one can also upgrade the Standard Warranty with Protection Plus coverage. This upgraded warranty is similar to what is often called a no-fault warranty. Specifically, a Protection Plus warranty on your Toughbook computer covers repairs that result from accidental damage during regular use.
The Protection Plus warranty is also economically priced. The standard three year warranty can upgraded to Protection Plus on any Panasonic Toughbook computer.
